The Super Bowl coin toss is supposed to the fairest and least predictable way to start the NFL title game, but reality shows that this random event never seems very random.
In the 14 games between Super Bowl 32 and Super Bowl 45, the NFC never lost a coin toss. That's 14-0 on a supposedly 50-50 proposition.
Small wonder some of the best online sportsbooks even offered the AFC as a slight underdog to win on the Super Bowl coin toss betting menus. Then the Patriots won the
toss (but lost the game) in Super Bowl 46 to break the streak.
As of Super Bowl 47 between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, 'heads' was on a four-game win streak. But Super Bowl history tells us that it's almost a
guarantee that this toss will be tails. Why?
Three other times, there have been four-game streaks, but never five. So if that holds true, tails is due in 2013.
